Architectural and Civil Engineering has its origins in human history,
and is one of the oldest academic fields. Its aim is to study various
technologies that can balance natural environments with great achievements
in nature and human welfare.

Architectural and Civil Engineering has a wide range of applications, from high-rise buildings and large stadiums in cities to bridges, tunnels, roads, railways, airports, marine structures, dams, water and sewage systems, and environments. Architectural and Civil Engineering is an academic field that deals with all phases of planning, design, analysis, construction, measurement, maintenance, and operation of buildings and social infrastructures essential to human societies. In other words, how planning of purposes and sizes of buildings and social infrastructures shall be done, how construction will be done according to the design and purposes, which construction methods and procedures are employed, and how the comfort and health of residents living in buildings and infrastructures can be ensured are studied and implemented in architectural and civil engineering. The above elements related to buildings and social infrastructures are studied from engineering, technical, and economical viewpoints in order to enhance building structures, and are therefore essential areas of architectural and civil engineering. Furthermore, architectural and civil engineering equips students with broad knowledge about designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings and social infrastructures, which are basic and essential for the development of civilization?safely, economically, and in an eco-friendly mannerㅡwhile pursuing the harmony of sustainable natural development and environments. Equipped with the above skills and concepts, our architectural and civil engineering department aims to produce creative and professional engineers in architectural and civil engineering sectors who can lead the 21st century information era in pursuit of a high value-added, knowledge intensive, and specialized and diversified information society as well as architectural and civil engineering technicians who can lead the next generation with social responsibilities. Architectural and civil engineering is an academic field and industry that required continuous education, research, and development since human history began and will do so as long as humans exist in the future. Be a part of architectural and civil engineering. As our alumni have constructed cities and social infrastructures, including our nation, your future and vision will also be achieved.

Architectural and civil engineering is a future-oriented high-tech industry.

Workers or technicians who work on building sites are called Nogada (general construction laborers are viewed derogatorily in Korea). However, is it really true? Modern structures are literally a collectivity of high technologies. The latest building structures employ IT, BT, ET, and NT, which are so-called state-of-the-art technologies and based on these technologies, new building technologies are reborn. In particular, the development of architectural and civil engineering based on information technology has advanced into a state-of-the-art subject that can lead human civilization into the future.

Architectural and civil engineering s an academic field and industry that will last forever, as long as humans exist.

Can you remember the days when everybody wanted to have a Walkman? Everyone wanted to own a pager 10 years ago, can you find one now? Can the most popular academic subject maintain its popularity even after 10 years? Nevertheless, structures will always be built as long as humans exist and architectural and civil engineering is an academic field and industry that will be needed by humans always.

The competitiveness of experts in architectural and civil engineering will become progressively important over time.

“Even at age 50, retirement is at hand. New technologies are changing every day and new knowledge and techniques are difficult to learn... Once I was young, my technologies were state-of-the-art...” Do you want this future? Architectural and civil engineering needs experiences as much as technological knowledge. Experiences and knowhow accumulated over time by onstruction engineers can also become important assets and industries need such engineers always.

The career path of architectural and civil engineering is endless.

Do students who major in architectural and civil engineering have only one career path, construction company? Not at all! The career path of architectural and civil engineering students is endless. They are not only construction companies but also design companies, engineering companies, CM companies, and companies that operate in specialized areas such as cities, roads, seaports, airports, bridges, railways, dams, water and sewage systems, environmental facilities, urban planning, GIS, construction informatization, and u-City construction. Nowadays, the demand on architectural and civil engineering experts has increased even in the construction-related IT sector and project development, as well as in financial institutions. Not only public servants, teachers, and researchers, but also other careers that are not directly related to construction need and demand students who major in architecture and civil engineering. Above all, new and more business opportunities are open to architectural and civil engineering students who have knowledge, technologies, and experiences above that of students from other majors.

The door is wide open for female students as well.

Are construction sites filed with male workers and demanding jobs only? Think twice. Increasingly more female workers wearing safety helmets are found on construction sites. Have you ever noticed articles about this trend? Now, workers on construction sites are being considered
“white-collar” workers without formal suits. Many women are now working not only on construction sites but also in many other areas such as building companies, design companies, engineering companies, and other construction-related specialized jobs that fulfill their dreams.
